Despite Cancellation of 2020 Tommy Cochary High School Mile, Family Steps Up with Special Donation
Falmouth, MA (June 16, 2020) – Falmouth Road Race, Inc. has awarded 47 scholarships, totaling $70,000, to 2020 high school graduates who reside in Falmouth and will be starting college in the fall. The announcement was made under sunny skies on Saturday morning, June 13, at Falmouth High School’s James T. Kalperis Track.
This is the ninth year that Falmouth Road Race, Inc., has awarded scholarships to Falmouth graduates, many of whom volunteer annually at the New Balance Falmouth Road Race. The scholarship funds represent just some of the $2.9 million the organization has given back to the community since 2012.
“This year has certainly had its struggles, and we were concerned that we might not be able to be as generous as we’ve been in the past,” said Scott Ghelfi, president of the Falmouth Road Race, Inc. board of directors. “However, the family of Tommy Cochary has stepped up to help, making a generous donation to directly support this program, for which we are very grateful.” For a list of scholarship recipients, click below to view the video presentation.read more
Falmouth, MA (June 12, 2020) – Falmouth in the Fall, a classic local road race held each autumn since 1979, is now under the direction of Falmouth Road Race, Inc.
The race, which is run on the same seaside course as the New Balance Falmouth Road Race, was founded by Jack Oser, who is also co-founder of the Cape Cod Marathon, along with Jim and Betty Gehris, long-time Falmouth Road Race volunteers. After directing the race for about eight years, the Gehrises turned over the duties to Don Facey, who served as race director until 2018. Last year, the race was put on by Cape Cod MOVES, and had 299 finishers.

Falmouth, MA (May 11, 2020) – Perhaps the best thing about the 2020 New Balance Falmouth Road Race At-Home Edition is that it can be done your way.
Need some motivation? There’s nothing like putting a race on your calendar. Remember that feeling?
You’re a beginner? It’s OK to run the 7-mile race one mile at a time, even over a period of several days. Try doing THAT in a race.
Want some virtual race partners? Challenge your friends, no matter where they live, to enter and run it “with” you, then toast each other on a post-race video chat.
Want to run with your kids? A special family rate will be offered to include your kids. And don’t worry, we’re planning something very exciting for kids under 10 to join the fun, too!
Walking’s more your thing? Great – enjoy the scenery! There’s no time limit, virtual or otherwise. Walk, jog, skip, just cover 7 miles and upload your finishing time when complete.read more
