About the Award

In celebration of 50 years of wheelchair racing in Falmouth, Falmouth Road Race, Inc. established the Bob Hall Legacy Award in August 2025. Named in honor of pioneering wheelchair racer Bob Hall, the award recognizes his groundbreaking role in adaptive sports and his connection to the Falmouth Road Race.

Each year, a $2,500 grant will be awarded to an athlete seeking financial assistance to purchase or improve adaptive sports equipment that enables them to begin participating in sports or continue competing. The award is open to athletes pursuing a wide range of adaptive sports and equipment needs, not limited to racing wheelchairs. Applicants are invited to share their athletic goals and how this support would help them move forward in their sport.

To be considered for the 2026 award, please have your application submitted completed by July 1, 2026.

Bob Hall

Pioneer of Wheelchair Racing and Champion of Inclusive Road Racing

Bob Hall is widely recognized as a trailblazer in wheelchair racing and a pivotal figure in the history of the Falmouth Road Race. After contracting polio at a young age, Hall became a world-class athlete and made history in 1975 by helping introduce wheelchair competition to major road races. That same year, he competed in Falmouth and went on to win eight consecutive wheelchair titles, establishing the event as a leader in inclusivity. Hall’s impact extends beyond Falmouth as he was also the first official wheelchair finisher at the Boston Marathon, helping spark the global growth of adaptive racing and opening doors for generations of athletes.
