Green Family to Receive John and Lucia Carroll Service Award

FALMOUTH, MA (July 30, 2018)—Two brothers and their wives—Dan Green and Jamie Scarborough, and Tony
and Debby Green—have been named winners of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race’s 2018 John and Lucia
Carroll Service Award for their decades of hosting elite athletes who are here to compete in the event.
The award is named for the couple who helped co-direct the race until 2011, and is given annually for
meritorious volunteer service to the race.

“In the early years they responded so generously to our need for more host families as the race became more
popular,” said Lucia Carroll. “The Greens certainly went way above and beyond what was expected of them, and
made their guests feel like part of the family.”

Among the top runners they’ve hosted are four-time U.S. Olympian Abdi Abdirahman and Diane Nukuri, a three-
time Olympian for Burundi, who has run here every year since 2013 and won in 2015.

“Staying with the Green family is so amazing,” said Nukuri. “They are so open and kind, and they genuinely care
about us. I always feel like I am going home; there is so much love in that house and you feel it as soon as you
walk in.”

Debby Green called hosting “an incredible experience.”

More Falmouth families can soon have the same experience: Race organizers are currently seeking families to
host athletes from both the open and wheelchair divisions of the 2018 road race, as well as from the Aetna
Falmouth Elite Mile.

In the past 10 years, elite athletes competing in Falmouth have hailed from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia,
Burundi, Great Britain, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Uganda, Russia, Canada, Poland, and South Africa, in
addition to the United States. Among them have been dozens of Olympians, including several medalists and at
least one World Champion.
