FALMOUTH, MA (July 16, 2015)—In a move to add an element of competition between the men’s and

women’s elite fields of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race and to offer even-more excitement to

fans, the 43rd annual edition on August 16 will introduce “The Countdown,” organizers announced today,

exactly one month until race day.

The winner will receive a $5,000 bonus in addition to the first-place prize for men and women of $8,000.

The total prize purse for the 2015 New Balance Falmouth Road Race, including the bonus, is $102,000.

In “The Countdown,” a clock will start when the first woman breaks the tape, counting down the

number of minutes and seconds the winning man has to beat in order to win the bonus, according to a

pre-determined formula. If the clock runs out before he crosses the finish line, the victorious woman

gets the $5,000.

“The New Balance Falmouth Road Race is proud of its traditions,” said Dave McGillivray, race director.

“But the race is also proud that we aren’t afraid to offer something new and different. Now, one of the

most iconic finish lines in road racing will have one more bit of drama, as the announcer counts down

those final seconds to that $5,000 bonus.”

The time gap to determine when “The Countdown” begins will be announced closer to race day.

The 43rd running of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race will be Sunday, August 16, 2015. For more
