FALMOUTH, MA (MAY 15, 2017)—Falmouth Road Race, Inc., is again accepting grant requests from the community. The next deadline for submissions, which are accepted twice each year, is June 1.

Falmouth Road Race, Inc. established the grant program as a way to give back to the community, fulfilling its mission to promote health and fitness while at the same time thanking the residents and organizations of Falmouth for their help and support.

Each year, those residents and groups taken together provide thousands of hours in volunteer efforts for the New Balance Falmouth Road Race, a world-class event for both elite and recreational runners, as well as for the SBLI Family Fun Run and other activities surrounding the road race.

“This year, our hometown race is celebrating its 45 th running,” said Scott Ghelfi, president of Falmouth Road Race, Inc. “Since it began on Tommy Leonard’s birthday in 1973, the New Balance Falmouth Road Race has grown over the decades into a ‘bucket list’ event for people across the country and even around the world, and that’s because of Falmouth’s open arms and community spirit. We’re proud to be able to give something back to a town that gives so much to our event—which is really everyone’s event.”

Since fiscal year 2012-2013, grants awarded under the program have totaled more than $1 million. Last March alone, 12 non-profit community groups—including Falmouth High School Athletics, the Falmouth Clippers Sailing Team Booster Club, and American Legion Post 118 Baseball—were awarded grants totaling almost $120,000.

Organizations and groups interested in applying for a grant should provide the following:

  • Organization name, contact name, and email address
  • Proof of IRS-designated 501(c)3 status
  • Amount requested and a timeline for the project or initiative
  • Specifics on how the donation is to be used and how it will better the organization or the community

Applicants can visit www.falmouthroadrace.com/philanthropy for grant-proposal guidelines and information. Complete requests can be sent to philanthropy@falmouthroadrace.com for review.
