Latest Round of Giving Brings Total to Almost $2.7 Million Since 2012
FALMOUTH, MA (September 19, 2019)—Ten non-profit groups have received a total of $155,157 in grants as part of the latest donations by Falmouth Road Race, Inc., which presented the checks at its 2019 New Balance Falmouth Road Race Awards and Recognition Party Wednesday night at the Coonamessett Inn.
Among the projects and items to be funded will be fitness equipment, an awards banquet, restoration of Taft’s Playground in Woods Hole and uniforms for a new cross country team at Falmouth Academy. The latter was a project initiated by student Bianca Greco, a 15-year-old from North Falmouth who was also the first Falmouth finisher in the girls’ 15-19 age group in this year’s New Balance Falmouth Road Race.
“We got the uniforms yesterday and it was great,” said Greco said at the party. “Definitely everyone was excited. We had our first meet, and it was really, really fun doing it for the first time.”
The grant program was established as a way for Falmouth Road Race, Inc. to give back to the community for its help and support. Each year, Falmouth residents and organizations provide many hours of volunteering for the New Balance Falmouth Road Race, a world-class event for both elite and recreational runners, as well as for the Aetna Falmouth Elite Mile, the SBLI Family Fun Run, and the Health & Fitness Expo.
Since fiscal year 2012-2013, Falmouth Road Race, Inc. has contributed almost $2.7 million to the health and wellness of Falmouth and the surrounding area through Community Giving and Grants.
Receiving grants in this semi-annual round were:
- Cranberry Baseball League (equipment and field fees)
- Falmouth Academy (uniforms for new cross country team)
- Falmouth Beach Committee (annual awards banquet)
- Falmouth Public Schools (playground and sports equipment)
- Friends of Falmouth Senior Center (fitness equipment and wellness)
- Gateway Baseball (equipment, uniforms, scholarships)
- Great Harbors Resident Association (5K to encourage exercise in the neighborhood)
- Inspiration is Everywhere, Inc. (activities for youth and adolescents)
- Morse Pond School (Ride and Read program)
- Woods Hole Community Association (restoration of Taft’s Playground)
