New Balance Falmouth Road Race At-Home Edition to Feature SBLI Kids At-Home Challenge

Registration Open for Both Events; Children Ages 3-9 Will Complete 7 Activities to Earn SuperHero Status

Falmouth, MA (May 18, 2020) – Each year, the SBLI Family Fun Run is a highlight of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race weekend. With the 7-mile race this year being offered as a virtual “At-Home Edition” because of ongoing concerns over COVID-19, the popular SBLI event will be celebrated closer to home, too, giving kids the chance to join in.

In the SBLI Kids At-Home Challenge, children will not only be encouraged to run at least 7 minutes in a customizable race bib they will get in the mail, but the backside of the bib will list 7 challenges for them to complete. Challenges include calling a friend or relative; writing a note to a teacher, first responder or healthcare professional; and reading a book.

“The SBLI Family Fun Run has been part of summer on Cape Cod for nearly 20 years, enabling kids to take part in the famed Falmouth Road Race in a unique way,” said James A. Morgan, president and CEO of SBLI. “Amid so much change and uncertainty, we are pleased to create this very special remote experience for kids and families to continue this tradition no matter where they are. SBLI is bringing the fun to the kids, in their own neighborhoods, wherever they live. These kids have truly been SuperHeroes as they’ve navigated so much change this year. Remaining active is a key part of staying healthy, and that has never been more important.”

The SBLI Kids At-Home Challenge is open to 1,000 participants ages 3-9, and entry is free. In addition to the race bib, each child will receive crayons to personalize their bib; SBLI temporary tattoos; a “SuperHero SBLI” kid-sized, branded protective face mask; and a “SuperHero SBLI” cape as a reward for completing the 7 challenges between August 15 and August 29 – the same two-week window in which adults and children 10 and over can complete the 7 miles of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race At-Home Edition in their neighborhoods. Afterward, parents can post on social media using the hashtags #falmouthroadrace, #NBFRR, #NBFRRAtHome, #KidsAtHome and #SBLI.
