FALMOUTH, MA (November 17, 2016)—Charities that participated in the Numbers for Nonprofits program of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race raised $4,061,104 in the 2016 race, organizers announced today.

The total, raised by 2,248 runners participating for 113 nonprofit organizations, is up from the $3.4 million raised in 2015 by 1,907 runners from 98 groups.

“We’re proud to learn, just before Thanksgiving, that fund-raising through our Numbers for Nonprofits program will help even more people in Massachusetts than last year,” said Scott Ghelfi, president of the board of directors of Falmouth Road Race, Inc. “Part of our mission is to promote health and wellness through community programs, and the success and growth of Numbers for Nonprofits allows us to do so not only on Cape Cod but in every corner of the commonwealth.”

To be eligible for participation in the Numbers for Nonprofits program, organizations must be based in Massachusetts and demonstrate that proceeds from their fundraising efforts go directly to its citizens.

In the past five years alone, since 2012, the New Balance Falmouth Road Race has enabled organizations to raise $16 million for such varied endeavors as clinical trials and research, a program to teach financial literacy in schools, protection and restoration of Buzzards Bay and its watershed, providing service dogs for veterans, offering after-school programming for students with disabilities, and promoting opportunities to practice random acts of kindness.
